South Korea Hosts Seven Nations for Border Security and Law Enforcement Talks
South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted law enforcement and border control officials from seven countries between October 19 and 24, 2026, as part of its second official invitation program for international security officials. Eight delegates from the Netherlands, East Timor, Malaysia, Mexico, United States (Guam), Vietnam, and Cambodia traveled to Seoul to examine South Korea’s emergency response networks and discuss bilateral security cooperation, Newsis reported.
Delegates Tour Emergency Centers and Security Expos
During the six-day visit, the foreign delegates visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Overseas Safety Situation Room and its 24-hour Consular Safety Call Center to observe South Korea’s round-the-clock crisis response infrastructure. The group also toured the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Hongik District Unit to inspect the 112 emergency call dispatch system, and visited the Incheon International Airport Immigration and Foreigner Office to observe advanced border screening and security technologies. In addition, the officials attended the 2026 International Law Enforcement and Security Expo (KPEX), hosted by the Korean National Police Agency, to review domestic security equipment and innovations.
Ministry Urges Continued Diplomatic Security Cooperation
Cho Joo-sung met with the visiting security officials during the program. According to Newsis, the director-general thanked the delegates for their contributions to protecting South Korean nationals abroad and urged them to maintain close communication and cooperation with South Korea’s overseas diplomatic missions.
Background on South Korea’s Security Invitation Program
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the law enforcement invitation program in 2015 and runs it biannually. The initiative brings together key officials responsible for policing, disaster safety, and immigration management from countries that have aided in protecting South Korean citizens or where diplomatic missions require sustained, close operational cooperation.
