Space Engineers 2 Receives Major VS2.2 Update: Mechanical Blocks, Weapons, and Expanded Exploration Arrive

Prague, March 23, 2026 – Keen Software House has released the VS2.2 update for Space Engineers 2, bringing significant enhancements to building, combat, exploration, and survival mechanics. This update, available now for Alpha players, introduces the first iteration of Mechanical Blocks, alongside initial weapons and combat systems.

Mechanical Blocks and Enhanced Building

The VS2.2 update centers around the introduction of Mechanical Blocks, specifically Rotors and Pistons. These blocks allow for more complex and dynamic engineering designs within the game. Alongside these fresh blocks, Area Welding has been implemented, streamlining large-scale construction projects. The first iteration of Production Lines is as well included, improving manufacturing workflows for players.

Combat and Exploration Expansion

Players can now arm their grids and engage in combat with the addition of initial Weapons and Combat Basics. Exploration has been expanded with the addition of new moons, asteroid rings, and resource-rich clusters within the Almagest System. Planetary Events and Weather systems introduce environmental variety and challenges to exploration.

Economic Foundations and New Features

VS2.2 lays the groundwork for an in-game economy with the introduction of Trading and Credits. Contracts now include combat encounters and more complex engineering challenges. Additional features include customizable controls, suit oxygen survival mechanics, cargo ships, and datapads for players to discover and collect.

Looking Ahead: Future Updates

The VS2.2 update establishes a foundation for future development. VS2.3 will introduce Wheels, Hinges, additional mechanical systems, and further automation features. Following that, VS3 will focus on Water, bringing planetary-scale water systems to the game. Finally, VS4 will introduce NPCs and cooperative multiplayer for up to four players, with two development teams working in parallel to bring both VS3 and VS4 to completion. The full roadmap is available on the Space Engineers 2 website.
