Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa: Income Requirements Rise in 2026

If you’re planning to apply for Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) in 2026, be aware that the financial requirements have increased. The income threshold to qualify for the visa is now higher, reflecting changes to Spain’s minimum wage.

Understanding the Income Requirements

To be eligible for Spain’s DNV, non-EU/EEA citizens must demonstrate a consistent monthly income. This income must be at least 200 percent of Spain’s monthly minimum wage.

In 2025, the required monthly income was €2,763. Still, on February 16, 2026, the Spanish government announced an increase to the national minimum wage as reported by the Spanish government.

The 2026 Financial Threshold

The modern minimum wage is set at €1,221 per month, paid across 14 payments annually. This equates to an annual income of €17,094. Calculating the monthly equivalent yields €1,424.50.

To meet the DNV’s 200 percent income requirement, applicants must now demonstrate a monthly income of at least €2,849.

As of February 16, 2026, this translates to approximately $3,377.35 USD and £2,477.32 GBP.

Income Requirements for Families

The income requirements increase for applicants traveling with family members.

  • Partner: An additional 75 percent of the minimum wage is required, equaling €1,068.37 per month. For a couple, the total required income is €3,917.37.
  • Each Dependent Child: An additional 25 percent of the minimum wage is required per child, amounting to €356.12 per month.

a family of three (two adults and one child) applying for the DNV in 2026 would need to demonstrate a combined monthly income of €4,273.49.

Income Sources and Additional Requirements

The DNV requires income from freelance work or remote employment with a company based outside of Spain. No more than 20 percent of your income can originate from Spanish sources. Citizen Remote clarifies this point.

Beyond income, other requirements include:

  • A continuous working relationship with a client for at least three months prior to applying.
  • The company you work for must have been in operation for at least one year.

Social Security Contributions

Freelancers and self-employed individuals must register with the Spanish autonomous system (Régimen Especial de Trabajadores Autónomos) and pay monthly social security fees. These fees vary based on income:

  • Minimum income (€2,849/month): €452.94 per month.
  • Higher income (€4,273.49/month): €545.59 per month.

These fees cover public healthcare and other social benefits. For those employed remotely by a company, the company must either register to pay social security fees or be located in a country with a bilateral social security agreement with Spain.
