The unexpected death of the versatile Catalan performer prompted an immediate outpouring of tributes from cultural institutions and political figures across Spain. Garrido was widely known for his prolific work spanning television, film, and theater.

Stage Roots and Acclaimed Film Credits

Born in Barcelona on September 7, 1969, Garrido trained at the Institut del Teatre and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). According to reporting by Telecinco, his professional stage debut came in 1990 with the play Alfons Quart.

Television work quickly followed in the 1996 TV3 series Estació d’enllaç. His film debut arrived in 1999’s La ciudad de los prodigios.

Over the decades, Garrido built a reputation as a supporting and leading actor. He appeared in more than 30 films.

His cinematic credits include roles in Mar adentro, Te doy mis ojos, and Smoking Room. The latter earned him a Silver Biznaga at the Málaga Film Festival alongside directors Roger Gual and Julio D. Wallovits, as reported by Telecinco. He also received Gaudí Award nominations for his performances in Stella cadente and L’adopció, as noted by RTVE.

On television, Garrido appeared in roughly 20 series. His credits featured titles such as El tiempo entre costuras, Gran Reserva, Isabel, and Los hombres de Paco.

He earned a Feroz Award nomination for his starring role as lawyer Juan Elías Giner in the 2017 series Sé quién eres.

More recent screen credits include appearances in the series Clanes as inspector Naranjo, La novia gitana, Jaguar, and the film Balandrau, vent salvatge directed by Fernando Trullols.

Deep Ties to the Theater and the Teatre Lliure

Theater remained a cornerstone of his career. He maintained deep ties to the Teatre Lliure under directors such as Àlex Rigola, Lluís Pasqual, and George Lavaudant.

Earlier this year, he appeared in El anfitrión, a production starring Willem Dafoe.
