Spectrum has expanded its fiber-optic internet infrastructure to over 10,000 homes and businesses across Polk County, Florida, as part of a multi-year rural construction initiative. The buildout delivers internet to communities including Lake Wales, Fort Meade, and Polk City, backed by an approximate $7 billion private investment from the company to connect approximately 1.75 million new homes and small businesses nationwide.
Broadband Expansion Details in Polk County
Nearly 4,900 homes and small businesses throughout Polk County, Florida now have access to Spectrum Internet, Mobile, TV, and Voice services via this newly launched network. Residential tiers offer starting download speeds of 500 Mbps and scale up to 1 Gbps with Advanced WiFi, featuring no modem fees, data caps, or contracts. Business customers can access download speeds matching the 1 Gbps tier alongside 400 Mbps and 600 Mbps options.
“Spectrum is bringing gigabit broadband to unserved communities in Florida and across America,” said John Dosher, Area Vice President, Field Operations, Charter Communications. Dosher noted that the private investment delivers competitive pricing supported by local technicians and 100% U.S.-based customer service.
“Spectrum is helping us to deliver internet accessibility to more families in Polk County— from agriculture to manufacturing, our county’s rural communities will play a huge part in Florida’s growth this century,” said Polk County Commissioner Becky Troutman. State Representative Josie Tomkow added that closing access gaps in rural areas remains a critical priority for the region.
Partnerships and Digital Education Grants
Alongside the infrastructure rollout, Spectrum partnered with the state through the Florida Office of Broadband via the Broadband Opportunity Program to reach unserved homes and small businesses in Polk County and across the Sunshine State. To mark the expansion milestone, the company also donated $50,000 to the Beyond the Build Digital Education Grant to Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay.
Approximately 25,000 students in Polk, Hardee, and Highlands counties benefit annually from immersive financial and career readiness education supported by this grant funding. State Representative Jennifer Canady stated that the center provides students with hands-on learning opportunities to apply classroom lessons to real-world scenarios.
Additional Services and Network Capabilities
The newly deployed infrastructure supports supplementary consumer services, including Spectrum Mobile and Spectrum TV. Spectrum Mobile utilizes nationwide 5G networks, offering unlimited lines starting at $30 a month alongside By the Gig options. Meanwhile, Spectrum TV provides access to more than 270 HD channels and 85,000 On Demand movies and shows streamable via the Spectrum TV App on supported devices such as Apple TV, Roku, Samsung Smart TVs, and mobile platforms.
