Police intercepted multiple drivers operating well above legal thresholds during the morning sweep. Among those pulled over, two motorists exceeded the speed limit by more than 40 km/h, leading law enforcement to immediately retain their driver’s licenses. Officers also handed out three additional tickets for unrelated infractions.
Combined Narcotic Offenses and Heavy Penalties
The operation caught one motorist compounding a severe speed violation of over 30 km/h with driving under the influence of narcotics. Authorities took swift action in that severe case, retaining the driver’s license and seizing the vehicle on the spot.

Explaining the rationale behind the operation, Julien Dossmann told Actu Strasbourg that these checks target the four primary causes of traffic accidents: alcohol consumption, excessive speed, drug use, and driving distractions. Dossmann emphasized the shift from educational warnings to strict enforcement once speeds climb past a certain threshold. “A partir de 30 km/h au-dessus de la limite autorisée, on ne fait plus de préventif mais du répressif, puisque depuis le début de l’année, le département du Bas-Rhin a déjà enregistré plus de 20 morts sur ses routes,” Dossmann stated to Actu Strasbourg, highlighting the department’s mounting traffic fatality toll for 2026.
