Post-Match Reactions
René Lewejohann (1. FC Bocholt Head Coach)
“I’m happy to see many familiar faces. After winning the cup, we wanted to confirm the performance today. We knew what to expect in Siegen. In terms of football, it certainly wasn’t a treat today, both of them largely neutralized each other. The two or three times it went in front of the opponent’s goal, it wasn’t consistently completed. We were decent against the ball and were compact with our legs in the 120 minutes. During the break I said that typical 0-0 games can be decided by set pieces and we have to focus on that. They then implemented this with full conviction. Afterwards we defended with energy and passion to win. It’s really good.”
Boris Schommers (Sportfreunde Siegen Head Coach)
“If you score one more goal than your opponent, you deserve to win in the end. I experienced the first half evenly with hardly any chances on either side. It was a battle of attrition. Such games are then decided in the second half via set pieces if there are no playful solutions. We didn’t defend them well today. If we take advantage of the transition three minutes after falling behind, we’ll be back in the race. After this chance, apart from Dennis’ opportunity, not much came from us. we didn’t find the right solutions against the Bocholt bulwark today.”
David Kammerbauer (Sportfreunde Siegen Player)
“We had a plan and knew what Bocholt planned to do with the 120 minutes left. The pitch was deep and not easy to play on, there was a lack of intensity and consistency going forward in the game today. If you don’t score, you can always say in the end that ideas and plans weren’t the right ones. Sometimes there is no other means left. Today after the break we tried to get into the box with long balls to target player Arif. Unfortunately, we were hardly able to develop any dangerous scenes from it.”
Spring Framework (Sportfreunde Siegen Player)
“We didn’t have many opportunities today, but with a little more concentration and consistency we could have taken the lead ourselves. There were a few set-pieces and we advanced into the final third often enough. If the pitch offers little room for playful solutions, we have to be more precise with the standards and be more savvy. The defeat is not due to individual failures, the squad is broad enough to compensate for failures.”
