Sporting CP: Predicted Lineup and Changes for LASK Linz Clash

Sporting CP Starts 18-Day Marathon Against LASK Linz in UEFA Champions League

Sporting CP kicks off a demanding stretch of six matches across 18 days, hosting Austrian side LASK Linz at Alvalade for the third round of the UEFA Champions League. The fixture begins a punishing schedule running through November 7, encompassing two Champions League matches, three league fixtures, and one Taça da Liga encounter.

The Lions enter the European clash aiming to maintain a perfect record in the competition after securing a 3-1 victory against Galatasaray and a 2-0 win over Lens. Following the 20:00 kickoff against LASK Linz, Sporting faces Ac. Viseu at home on Sunday for the championship, followed less than 48 hours later by an Allianz Cup match against Marítimo on Tuesday at Alvalade. The sequence continues with a league match against Casa Pia, a trip to London to face Shakhtar on November 3, and a fixture against Moreirense on November 7.

Rui Borges Prepares Squad Rotations and Demands Maximum Respect

Facing a congested calendar, Rui Borges is expected to make three changes to his starting lineup compared to the side that faced Lens in France. Kaique is set to retain his place in goal after replacing Rui Silva last week, while defensive and midfield adjustments are anticipated alongside guaranteed starts in attack.

Speaking to Sport TV+, Borges expressed a blend of respect and ambition ahead of the encounter. The manager highlighted LASK Linz’s domestic title success and European pedigree.

“The LASK is here with much merit, was champion, sent Celtic to the Europa League… A few years ago they came here and eliminated Sporting,” Borges told Sport TV+. “Therefore, maximum respect for them, because in the Champions League there are no theories. We have made six points so far and we know how important it is to win games in our home.”

Suárez Pursues Club Record and Target Figures in Europe

In the final third, Sporting relies on forward Suárez, who stands as the club’s all-time leading scorer in the Champions League with seven goals. The striker enters the match looking to extend that scoring record, net his 10th goal of the season, and score in his ninth game. Borges may pair him with one or two new attacking partners as squad rotation becomes a necessity during the grueling 18-day block.
