Sporting Nuova Florida: A History of Growth and Regional Success

Sporting Nuova Florida is an Italian football club based in the hamlet of Nuova Florida, in the municipality of Ardea, Lazio. Founded in 2005, the club has rapidly ascended through the Italian football pyramid, achieving notable success in regional competitions and a brief stint in Serie D. Currently competing in Eccellenza, the fifth tier of Italian football, Sporting Nuova Florida continues to be a significant sporting presence in the region.

Early Years and Rise Through the Ranks (2005-2017)

Established on April 15, 2005, initially as Team New Florida Amateur Sports Association, the club aimed to represent the Nuova Florida neighborhood, which then had approximately 18,000 residents. The founding partners initially focused on recruiting players from the local community. The team debuted in the Third Category of Lazio in the 2005-2006 season, playing its early home matches at various sports centers due to a lack of a dedicated facility.

A turning point arrived in the 2009-2010 season, with the team, under coach Stefano Ciciani, winning Group B of the Third Category, earning promotion to the Second Category. Continued success followed, culminating in a promotion to the First Category in 2012. After navigating a play-out situation in 2014, the club continued to improve, eventually reaching the Promotion level.

The 2016-2017 season marked a significant milestone. Led by coach Andrea Bussone, Sporting Nuova Florida won Group C of the Lazio Promotion, securing promotion to Eccellenza.

Regional Dominance and Serie D (2017-2023)

Upon entering Eccellenza in the 2017-2018 season, the team quickly established itself as a competitive force. The following season, 2018-2019, proved to be the club’s most glorious to date. Sporting Nuova Florida achieved a double victory, winning both the Lazio Italian Amateur Cup – defeating Cynthia 1920 in the final on penalties after a 1-1 draw – and the Eccellenza Group A championship, earning promotion to Serie D.

Despite the challenges of the fourth national series and an interruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the club stabilized in Serie D. The 2021-2022 season saw the team achieve its highest Serie D finish, placing second in Group G, narrowly missing out on promotion to Serie C after being defeated in the play-off semi-finals by Afragolese.

Recent Developments and Current Status (2023-2026)

In the summer of 2023, the club rebranded as NF Ardea Calcio, competing in Serie D under the new name. However, following further corporate changes in 2024, the club reverted to its original name, Sporting New Florida. The club was relegated to Eccellenza after losing play-outs against Latte Dolce in 2024, and then relegated to Promotion, but recovered to return to Eccellenza.

As of February 2, 2026, Mario Guida has been appointed as the new head coach, replacing Graziano, with the aim of securing a return to form and achieving promotion.

Stadium and Colors

Sporting Nuova Florida plays its home matches at the Municipal stadium “Marco Mazzucchi” in Ardea, which has a capacity of 500 seats and a natural grass pitch measuring 105m x 69m. The stadium features a covered tribune.

The club’s colors are white and red, representing the identity of the Nuova Florida neighborhood, and have been used since its foundation in 2005. The home kit traditionally features a red and white vertical striped shirt.
