Brilliant Stage for German Sport
At the Sports Illustrated Germany Awards on December 9th in Munich, Sports illustrated Germany honored athletes and teams who have had a special impact on the year. The focus of the gala show was the first-ever large-scale presentation of the “Sportsperson of the Year Germany” award and also the “Team of the Year” award.
Leo Neugebauer will be “Sportsperson of the Year” 2025
leo Neugebauer – the new star of German athletics – received the “Sportsperson of the Year Germany” award 2025. The decathlete won the world title in a nerve-wracking final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September. Neugebauer had already demonstrated his international class with silver at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Laudator Mats Hummels (2014 soccer world champion) paid tribute to Neugebauer in his speech: “Leo Neugebauer is an athlete who can do everything. It’s not for nothing that they talk about the king of athletes. he crowned himself this year with the World Cup title.”
Leo Neugebauer said at the award ceremony: “This award means so much to me – simply because Sports Illustrated is one of the most famous sports magazines in the world. What happened this year is just crazy. I gave it my all and it paid off.”
The national basketball team is “Team of the Year” 2025
The “team of the Year” award 2025 went to the German national basketball team. After the historic World Cup title in 2023, the team also won the European Championship title in 2025 this year, impressively continuing the success story of German basketball.
