Spotify announced an expansion of its audiobook catalog at the Frankfurt Book Fair, scaling its availability from 22 countries to roughly 180 markets by the end of 2026. The platform will introduce over 350,000 titles in more than 120 languages, featuring non-exclusive publisher partnerships that allow authors to sell their books through competing vendors.
Spotify Expands Audiobooks to 180 Markets by End of 2026
The global rollout introduces over 350,000 titles distributed across more than 120 languages, adding new catalogs in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Polish. Publisher partnerships remain non-exclusive under the expansion terms. Authors retain the right to sell their written works through alternative providers alongside Spotify.
Pricing Models and Access Tiers Across Global Markets
Spotify applies three distinct access methods depending on the specific country. Eligible Premium subscribers receive twelve hours of monthly audiobook listening time included in their base plan, a model launching in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, Poland, and Norway. Markets in Africa, Asia, and Argentina rely primarily on Audiobooks+, a secondary subscription add-on. Members subscribed to Premium Family and Duo tiers receive a recurring 15-hour monthly add-on allotment. Users who want to bypass monthly allowances can use an a la carte single-purchase option to buy and keep individual titles. This hourly allowance structure differs from traditional audiobook subscription models that grant one book credit per month.
Page Match and New Scanning Features
Page Match, a tool that debuted in Switzerland in February, allows users to switch between printed books, e-books, and audiobooks without losing their exact place. More than one million users engaged with the feature since its initial release, according to company figures. Spotify added a new ISBN barcode scanning capability to the tool. Users can now scan physical book barcodes with their smartphone cameras to jump directly to the correct corresponding page number. Page Match operates across more than 30 languages. Student subscribers in Ireland, Belgium, Austria, and Finland gain the option to purchase Audiobooks+ add-ons starting in November. Additional student markets will roll out next year.
European Price Increases and Market Testing
Spotify implemented price increases for Premium subscriptions in August 2026 across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Swiss subscriptions underwent a price increase in November 2025, with no adjustments announced since that time. Spotify did not comment on whether Swiss users will face subsequent price hikes tied to the audiobook expansion. The company historically tests higher subscription pricing in isolated markets before rolling changes out to the rest of Europe several months later.
