Spotify’s 2025 Loud & Clear Report: A Growing Music Economy

Spotify’s 2025 Loud & Clear report reveals continued growth in payouts to artists and the music industry, with over $11 billion paid out in 2025 and a total of nearly $70 billion paid out to date. The report highlights a diversifying music landscape, with increased revenue for artists at all levels and a growing global presence.

More Artists Earning Significant Revenue

In 2025, more than 13,800 artists generated at least $100,000 from Spotify alone, representing an increase of nearly 1,400 artists compared to the previous year [1]. Over one-third of these artists have seen their royalties increase tenfold in under a decade, and 80% of artists who surpassed the $100,000 threshold in 2022 have remained above that level consistently [1]. Notably, 85% of artists earning over $100,000 are based outside of the United States, indicating a broadening global music economy [1].

Growth at All Levels of Revenue

The report also shows growth beyond the highest earners. More than 1,500 artists exceeded $1 million in royalties from Spotify in 2025 [1]. Spotify notes that many of these artists are not globally renowned, demonstrating that success doesn’t necessarily require widespread international recognition [1]. Even the 100,000th highest-earning artist on the platform generated over $7,300 in royalties in 2025, a more than twentyfold increase from the $350 earned by the artist in that position a decade ago [1].

Spotify’s Financial Contributions to the Music Industry

Spotify paid the music industry more than $11 billion in 2025, bringing the total lifetime payouts to nearly $70 billion [3]. This represents a year-over-year growth of over 10%, more than double the growth rate of other music industry income sources, which grew closer to 4% [3]. Approximately half of these payouts went to independent artists and labels [3].

Global Diversity and Reach

The platform’s global reach is also expanding. Songs in 16 different languages appeared on Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart in 2025, more than double the number in 2020 [4]. Over half of an artist’s royalties now come from outside their home country within two years of debuting their music on Spotify. Artists generating over $500,000 in royalties hail from 75 countries, up from 66 the previous year, and artists earning over $10,000 come from more than 150 countries [1].

Supporting Emerging Artists

Spotify’s Fresh Finds playlist continues to play a role in artist discovery, with over 10% of artists earning more than $100,000 annually first being playlisted on Fresh Finds, representing over 1,600 artists [1].

Music Publishing Payouts

Spotify reported its largest annual music publishing payout to date in 2025, distributing roughly $5 billion to publishers and organizations representing songwriters over the past two years [1].
