Spotify to Let Users Fine-Tune Recommendations with ‘Taste Profile Notes’

Spotify is reportedly developing a modern feature called “Taste Profile Notes” that will allow users to directly influence their Home and Discover Weekly music recommendations. Currently, Spotify’s algorithm builds a “Taste Profile” based solely on listening habits, which can sometimes lead to inaccurate suggestions. The new feature aims to address this by giving users a way to proactively shape their recommendations, rather than simply excluding tracks or playlists.

How Spotify’s Taste Profile Works Now

Your Spotify Taste Profile is the platform’s interpretation of your musical preferences, derived from what you listen to and how you listen. This profile powers personalized features like Discover Weekly, your Home page and the annual Wrapped and Blend summaries. If you discover your recommendations are being skewed by certain content – such as a sleep playlist – you can currently exclude those tracks or playlists from your Taste Profile. Spotify notes that these exclusions grab effect within 48 hours, impacting future recommendations and summaries.

The Limitations of the Current System

The primary limitation of the existing system is its reactive nature. Users can only remove content that doesn’t align with their taste. There’s no direct way to share Spotify what you are currently enjoying or the specific types of music you’re interested in. The algorithm must learn these preferences over time through continued listening.

Introducing ‘Taste Profile Notes’

According to a recent teardown of Spotify app version 9.1.28.385 by Android Authority, the “Notes” feature will allow users to add written feedback to their Taste Profile. Strings of code discovered within the app suggest a prompt like “I’ve been listening to a lot of…” will guide user input. Users will be able to add, edit, and delete these notes, although there may be limits on the number of notes and the character count per note. Deleting a note will lessen its impact on your Taste Profile.

Availability

As of February 23, 2026, the “Taste Profile Notes” feature is still in development and not yet available to the public. The Digital Trends report notes that APK teardowns don’t guarantee a feature will launch, but this update appears likely. No official launch date has been announced.
