Sprints Channel Generational Frustration on New Single ‘Trickle Down’
Irish garage punk band Sprints have released their new single, “Trickle Down,” a track the band describes as channeling “the frustration of a generation stuck in ‘wait mode’ while everything burns.” The song follows the band’s recent cover of Le Tigre’s “Deceptacon,” their first release since their critically acclaimed second album, All That Is Over.
Lyrical Commentary on Sociopolitical Issues
Vocalist Karla Chubb’s lyrics directly confront themes of economic inequality and political disillusionment. The song questions the efficacy of trickle-down economics, with lines like, “Has anyone tried to explain trickle down economics to you in a bar?/I’m just waiting, my whole life is waiting/I’m just waiting for pay but losing cents on inflation.” Chubb also references contemporary artist Amy Taylor of Amyl and the Sniffers, expressing a desire to emulate her energy, and critiques the current political landscape, calling out “free hate, racism disguised as nationalism.”

According to a press release, “Trickle Down is about watching systems fail in gradual motion, housing crisis, rising costs, culture wars, climate collapse, and being told to stay patient.”
All That Is Over received a three-star review from NME, with critics noting the album’s experimentation while also pointing out that its strongest moments remain those most aligned with the band’s established sound. The review highlighted tracks “Descartes” and “Need” as examples of songs where the songwriting felt somewhat restrained compared to the band’s more visceral earlier work.
Tour Dates and Festival Appearances
Sprints are currently on a European tour, scheduled to continue through mid-April. The band will also be performing at several UK festivals this year, including Bearded Theory at Catton Park in Derby in May and headlining the inaugural Bulletproof Festival in London in June. They are also slated to perform at 2000trees festival later in the year.
