St. Xavier Volleyball Enters KHSAA State Tournament Riding 57-Match Win Streak
St. Xavier High School is heading into this week’s KHSAA Boys Volleyball State Tournament as the heavy favorite, carrying an imposing 57-match winning streak. The Tigers, who currently hold a perfect 26-0 record this season, have established a level of dominance that has made them the team to beat in Kentucky high school volleyball.
A Legacy of Dominance
St. Xavier’s success is not a recent phenomenon but the result of a long-term commitment to the sport. Since starting its club program in 1992, the school has amassed 22 state titles, including three consecutive championships and 10 of the last 11 titles. While the KHSAA only began sponsoring the sport last year, St. Xavier has seamlessly transitioned its excellence into the official state framework.
The current winning streak began last season. After an opening loss to Cincinnati St. Xavier, the Tigers surged through the rest of the year, winning 31 straight matches and ultimately defeating Henry Clay in the state final. That momentum has carried directly into the current campaign, where St. Xavier has been nearly flawless, dropping only two sets across 26 matches.
Player Spotlight: Briley Codey
Leading the charge for the Tigers is senior Briley Codey. Codey has been a powerhouse on the court, recording 269 kills this season. His impact on the game was recognized last year when he was named Kentucky’s Mr. Volleyball, and he remains the focal point of the St. Xavier offense as they chase another state title.

The Road to the Championship
The tournament begins Monday with first-round matches hosted by regional champions. St. Xavier will host Paul Dunbar (13-10) at 7 p.m. A victory on Monday will propel the Tigers toward the final stages of the tournament held at George Rogers Clark High School, where the quarterfinals will take place Friday, followed by the semifinals and the championship final on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
St. Xavier is one of seven teams from the Louisville area to qualify for the state tournament, joining Trinity, Oldham County, Fern Creek, Iroquois, DeSales, and North Bullitt.
