Stanford Football Adds NFL Experience to Coaching Staff with Cory Robinson Hire
Stanford Cardinal football continues to bolster its coaching staff under newly appointed head coach Tavita Pritchard, adding Cory Robinson as the cornerbacks coach and defensive passing game coordinator. The move brings significant NFL experience to The Farm, aiming to elevate the Cardinal’s defensive capabilities within the competitive ACC conference.
Robinson’s Extensive Coaching Background
Robinson arrives at Stanford with nearly 20 years of coaching experience spanning both the NFL and Power Four college football. Most recently, he served as the defensive backs coach at Boston College in 2023, where he helped develop KP Price into a second-team All-ACC selection.[1] Prior to Boston College, Robinson coached cornerbacks for the Jacksonville Jaguars, working alongside Stanford’s new defensive coordinator, Kris Richard.[1]
Pritchard’s Vision for the Defense
Head coach Tavita Pritchard expressed his enthusiasm for the hire, stating, “I’m thrilled to welcome Cory Robinson to our staff. He’s a coach with a wealth of experience at every level who will bring tremendous expertise to our secondary.”[1] Pritchard emphasized Robinson’s ability to develop players and build a championship-caliber defense, highlighting his detail-oriented teaching approach and collaborative energy.[1]
Previous NFL and Collegiate Roles
Robinson’s resume includes a stint as a defensive analyst with the Tennessee Volunteers and three seasons (2020-2022) as an assistant defensive backs coach for the New Orleans Saints. During his time in New Orleans, the Saints consistently ranked among the top 10 in scoring defense in 2020 and 2021.[1] He also has coaching experience at Maryland, Rutgers, Temple, and Toledo.[1] Robinson began his coaching career in 2009, serving as an assistant varsity coach at Calvert Hall and later as the assistant head coach/defensive coordinator at St. Frances Academy.[1]
Robinson’s Commitment to Stanford
Robinson expressed his excitement about joining Stanford, stating, “Stanford sets the standard in the market of high-achieving academics married with highly competitive athletics. There is only one Stanford!”[1] He and his family are eager to contribute to the Stanford community and impact others through service.
Pritchard’s Staff Building and Leadership
Tavita Pritchard, who was named the Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football on November 28, 2025, is the 37th head coach in program history.[2] He previously served as the quarterbacks coach for the Washington Commanders from 2023 to 2025.[1] Pritchard’s return to Stanford is being lauded by general manager Andrew Luck, who believes Pritchard is the right leader to build a championship program.[2]
