Star Wars 1313 and First Assault: Lost Games Resurface Thanks to Fans
In 2012, the entertainment industry was shaken by Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm for $4 billion. As part of the takeover, Disney canceled several projects, including video games like Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault. Now, over a decade later, gameplay footage from the unreleased Star Wars: First Assault has surfaced, and fans are working to revive the project.
Gameplay Footage of Star Wars: First Assault Revealed
On March 8th, a livestream on the YouTube channel Unseen Halo – Corbin showcased over 70 minutes of gameplay from the canceled Star Wars: First Assault. The footage depicts a team-based shooter set on Tatooine, reminiscent of Battlefront or Call of Duty, but on smaller maps and without lightsaber combat. The gameplay is from an unfinished beta version, exhibiting graphical errors, uneven animations, and performance issues.
Fans Attempt to Revive Star Wars: First Assault
Despite its unfinished state, Star Wars: First Assault is playable in online multiplayer mode. A dedicated community has formed around the game, with a Discord server where interested players can register to try out the shooter. A team of modders has reportedly gained access to an unfinished version of the game and is actively working to get the project running.
The Fate of Fan Projects
Whereas the revival effort is underway, its longevity is uncertain. Disney is known to shut down fan projects, and Star Wars: First Assault was never officially released or announced. This makes its continued availability precarious.
Star Wars 1313 Remains on Hold
Alongside First Assault, Star Wars 1313 was also canceled in 2013. Star Wars 1313 was an action-adventure game in development by LucasArts, intended to take a more mature and gritty direction than previous Star Wars titles. The game would have focused on Boba Fett in his early adulthood, navigating the criminal underworld of Level 1313 on Coruscant. At the time of cancellation, LucasArts indicated the possibility of reviving the project through a licensing deal, but it remains on hold.
Development Details
Star Wars 1313 involved an integrated development approach with Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm Animation, and Skywalker Sound. The game was trademarked in May 2012 and officially revealed at E3 2012, with gameplay footage shown on Spike TV. George Lucas was directly involved in the development, influencing character choices and story revisions.
As of March 12, 2026, the future of both Star Wars 1313 and the fan-revived Star Wars: First Assault remains uncertain, but the dedication of fans offers a glimmer of hope for these lost projects.
