Texas Stars Fall to San Diego Gulls in Pink in the Rink Weekend Opener

CEDAR PARK, TX – The Texas Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat against the San Diego Gulls on Friday night, marking their second consecutive loss and kicking off their annual Pink in the Rink weekend at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park. Despite a strong performance from goaltender Remi Poirier and a goal from defenseman Jeremie Poirier, the Stars were unable to secure a victory.

Early Opportunity Denied

The Stars had a goal overturned in the first period with just 18 seconds remaining after a video review. Despite the setback, the team continued to press for an advantage.

Poirier’s Goal and San Diego’s Response

Jeremie Poirier scored his first home goal of the season early in the second period, giving the Stars a 1-0 lead. However, San Diego’s Nathan Gaucher quickly responded with a goal of his own, tying the game 1-1.

Bailey’s Game-Winner

The decisive goal came from San Diego forward Justin Bailey in the final period, putting the Gulls ahead 2-1. Despite a strong effort from Remi Poirier, who blocked 22 of 24 shots, the Stars could not overcome the deficit.

Power Play Struggles and Coach Petersen’s Reaction

This loss marks the first time in Texas Stars history that the team has gone two straight games without a single power play opportunity. Head coach Toby Petersen expressed frustration with the lack of power play chances, stating, “You earn your power play opportunities, and the more time you spend on the offensive zone, the more time you obsess (over) the clock, the more opportunity the other team has to interfere with your trip or your high stick.”

Looking Ahead

The Stars will have a chance to redeem themselves on Saturday night, February 28th, as they conclude their two-game home stand against the San Diego Gulls at 7 p.m. At the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park. Buy Tickets.
