Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg will keynote the South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference and Festival in Austin, Texas, on March 13, 2026. The appearance will be a live taping of “The Large Picture” podcast, hosted by Sean Fennessey, offering a rare opportunity to hear from one of cinema’s most influential figures.

A Career Spanning Decades

Spielberg’s conversation with Fennessey is expected to cover his six-decade-long career, from groundbreaking blockbusters like Jaws and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial to critically acclaimed dramas such as Schindler’s List. The discussion will also address the evolving landscape of moviegoing and the future of the film industry. As Claudette Godfrey, VP of Film & TV at SXSW, stated, “Steven Spielberg is a true pioneer and legend whose seminal work has inspired generations of filmmakers and audiences alike.”

‘Disclosure Day’ – A New Thriller

A significant portion of the keynote will focus on Spielberg’s upcoming thriller, Disclosure Day, scheduled for release in June. While specific plot details remain undisclosed, festival materials describe the film as an “original event thriller.”

SXSW 2026: A Milestone Year

Spielberg’s participation underscores SXSW’s commitment to featuring industry-defining names as it celebrates its 40th edition. The festival, running from March 12–18, 2026, will also include sessions with Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, comedian Larry David and actor Jamie Lee Curtis. SXSW 2026 will showcase 118 feature films, including 88 world premieres, alongside 72 shorts, 20 music videos, nine television projects, and 30 XR experiences.
