The Stevenson women’s tennis team secured a 6-1 victory against Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, on Sunday, propelled by a clean sweep of doubles matches and resilient singles comebacks. Stevenson opened the contest by claiming all three doubles matches to lock down the first point of the day.

Doubles Sweep Sets the Tone

In doubles action, Sofia McCoy and Shelby Carter defeated Olivia Clontz and Elise Wong 6-2. Meanwhile, Kara Chwang and Emma Clayton topped Alejandra Gallegos and Sophia Bernitt 6-2, and Molly Whitfield and Rachel Lubovsky clinched a closely contested 7-5 win over Myasia Leonard and Great Praise Wisdom to complete the doubles sweep.

Carter and McCoy Secure Comeback Singles Wins

Carrying momentum into singles play, Stevenson weathered early deficits with dramatic rallies. Shelby Carter bounced back after dropping the first set to defeat Olivia Clontz 3-6, 6-3, 10-7. With this triumph, Carter notched her 28th win at the top of the lineup, tying her for the third-most combined wins at No. 1 doubles and singles in program history.

Emma Clayton swept Elise Wong 6-1, 6-0, and Molly Whitfield secured her first win at Stevenson with an 8-4 pro-set victory against Sophia Bernitt. Marymount avoided a complete shutout when Rachel Lubovsky fell 8-4 to Myasia Leonard.
