Stolen Car Crash in Steinkjer Leads to Drug and DUI Investigation

A stolen vehicle crashed into a lamppost in the center of Steinkjer, Norway, on Monday morning, prompting a police investigation. The driver fled the scene on foot, but was later apprehended, according to police officials.

Police operations manager Svein Helgetun reported that no one was injured in the incident. An update at 2 p.m. Revealed that the driver is being investigated for both drug possession and driving under the influence.

“A police patrol has control over the person who was probably the driver of the car,” Helgetun stated.

Police task leader Terje Bolås explained that authorities received a report about the stolen car overnight. “We came across the car in the center of Steinkjer, and have control over a person who is a suspect,” he added.

The suspect was taken into police custody following the incident. A photograph taken by Kenneth Wikan of Steinkjer-Avisa shows the driver being escorted away by police.
