Police Confirm Death of Reality TV Star

The Lake Havasu City Police Department has confirmed that Darrell Sheets, the 67-year-old star of the A&E series “Storage Wars,” died by suicide on April 22, 2024. An incident report released by authorities reveals that investigators discovered a note at the scene citing persistent cyberbullying on Facebook. While police investigated these claims, the individual named in the note denied involvement and has not been charged.

Authorities Probe Harassment Allegations

Detectives found the note in a bathroom closet near where Sheets was discovered. During subsequent interviews, the person identified by Sheets as his cyberbully denied any connection to the death. The individual claimed to be out of state at the time of the incident and refused to provide further information, citing that he had been receiving his own death threats.

Family Conflict and Emotional Strain

Sheets’ girlfriend, who was present at the home, provided a statement to investigators detailing the mounting pressure he faced. She reported that Sheets was suffering from significant stress due to an ongoing dispute involving someone slandering his name. She also noted that a recent visit from his son, which involved family conflict, had left him visibly devastated.

A Tense Final Evening

The police report outlines a volatile final night. Sheets’ girlfriend told officials that he had been exchanging texts with his daughter-in-law, who alleged the girlfriend was “suspicious” and stealing money from him. While the girlfriend said Sheets was “sad and upset” by these messages, she also described a separate, non-related confrontation earlier that night in his office.

She told officials that she later discovered Sheets in his office with what appeared to be a firearm. Despite her attempts to plead with him and de-escalate the situation, she heard a single gunshot and contacted 911.

Remembering “The Gambler”

Known as “The Gambler,” Sheets rose to fame with the 2010 debut of “Storage Wars.” He became a household name for his high-stakes bidding style and his discovery of significant items, including four original Picasso pieces.

Fellow cast members have since reflected on his legacy and the toll of online harassment. Brandi Passante shared a message on social media noting her own experience with losing family members to similar circumstances. Rene Nezhoda described Sheets as a dedicated worker who cared deeply for his family. Nezhoda publicly addressed the reports of cyberbullying in a video, stating that the harassment had been a source of significant torment for Sheets in his final months.
