Huge construction works will be boiling in the Kresne gorge in the next 3-4 years. The “Road Infrastructure” Agency announced details of the construction of the bypass of the city of Kresna, which is an important part of the large project “Struma” Motorway, and more precisely of lot 3.2.2. The lot includes the city bypass and 10 kilometers of highway. With optimism, the road agency has given a 3.5-year deadline for the construction works.

More than 60 heavy-duty machines and more than 170 builders plus special drilling equipment for the implementation of piles (for the bridges) have already been assembled on the ground, the API reported.

The bypass, over 4 km long, will pass east over the town, thus moving transit traffic out of the township. It will have two lanes. The first two hundred meters of it will be on the existing highway Sofia – Kulata (road I-1), and the route after that will be completely new – along the “Tisata” reserve, over road I-1 and g. p. the line Sofia – Kulata.

There will be two bridges over the Struma River and one more – over the Vlahinska River. The project also includes two tunnels – “Kresna 1” and “Kresna 2”, with lengths of 359 m and 231 m, respectively. At the end of the section there will be a recreation area with a shopping area and a parking lot with 100 spaces.

What’s going on
API gives job details.

The humus layer, trees and bushes are removed from the terrain. They make partial reconstructions of power lines and irrigation canals. A front for one of the tunnels is also being prepared – the excavations at the pre-portal sites are being strengthened.

Work is underway on the foundations of the bridges – “piles” with a diameter of 1.2 m and a total length of about 650 m are being built.

All subways are also being worked on. The crossings with the agricultural roads will be carried out on two levels through 4 underpasses, so that farmers and farmers can easily and safely reach their properties, explains the API.

There will also be special small passages – 22 in number, for reptiles and turtles, to protect biodiversity. To stop collapses and landslides, reinforced nets (37 m and 71 m long) will be installed in two places. There will also be a 119-meter retaining pocket wall.

The lot

The design and construction were assigned to a Bulgarian-Portuguese association – DZZD “Struma – 3.2.2”. “GBS Infrastructure Construction” AD, “Glavbolgarstroy International” EAD and “EPOS – Empreza Potrugeza de Obras Subtereneas” AD, Portugal, and “Porto Salvo” EOOD participate in it.

The value of the contract for the entire lot 3.2.2 is BGN 570,239,136.32 or EUR 291,558,640.74. The construction supervision was assigned to the DZZD “Struma 2019-PPI-SVS”, which includes “Pathinvest-engineering” AD and “SWS engineering Spa”, Italy, Trento (supervision costs BGN 9,413,253.89 with VAT or EUR 4,883,860.05).

The term for the execution of the construction and assembly works on lot 3.2.2 under the contract is 1286 calendar days (three and a half years).

In 2023, the “Kresna” road junction was completed – also part of lot 3.2.2 of the “Struma” AM. It was supplemented with three new connections with road I-1/E-79/Sofia – Kulata and the Kresna – Sandanski section.
