Sublime Announces First Recent Album in 30 Years, ‘Until The Sun Explodes’

Sublime has announced their first new album in three decades, ‘Until The Sun Explodes,’ marking the first release with Jakob Nowell on vocals. The album is set to drop on June 12 via Atlantic Records.

The news follows last year’s confirmation that the band was working on new music with Travis Barker. The forthcoming album features collaborations with H.R. Of Bad Brains, Fletcher Dragge of Pennywise, G. Love, FEEDS, and Skegss.

Alongside the album announcement, Sublime released the title track, “Until The Sun Explodes.” The song serves as a tribute to Bradley Nowell, Jakob’s father and the band’s original vocalist, who passed away in 1996. The lyrics include the lines, “Until the sun blows up in the sky/I owe you my life.”

The music video for “Until The Sun Explodes” showcases locations in the band’s hometown of Long Beach, California, and highlights their connection to Southern California skate culture. Watch the video here.

Jakob Nowell stated, “The last Sublime record that will ever be made is Self-Titled. There’s no replacing history, period. ‘Until the Sun Explodes’ the album is an epilogue, and ‘Until the Sun Explodes’ the single is the epilogue to the epilogue. It is a tribute to the expansive works of Sublime, it is an acknowledgment for all that my father has done for me my entire life, and most importantly it is a thank you. I love you dad, and I owe you my life.”

Bud Gaugh, a founding member of Sublime, added, “This song is the title track of our new album and it expresses the gratitude we all feel as well as our intent for the future of our band and the music we love! Until the Sun Explodes is our reality. Thank you for enjoying life with us!”

Eric Wilson also expressed his excitement, stating, “I am really excited about the album that’s coming out. I believe it will set the tone for the summer of 2026!”

Sublime is also scheduled to perform at the Slam Dunk Festival in the UK for the first time, taking place at Leeds’ Temple Newsam Park and Hatfield Park over the late May Bank Holiday weekend.
