Subnautica Free Weekend and Discounts Announced Ahead of Subnautica 2 Launch
Players can soon revisit the underwater world of Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero for free, as Unknown Worlds Entertainment prepares for the Early Access launch of Subnautica 2. A free weekend for Subnautica is available alongside a franchise-wide discount promotion.
Free Weekend Details
From April 2nd to April 6th, Subnautica will be free to play on both Steam and the Epic Games Store . Xbox players will have a chance to experience the game for free during Free Play Days, running from April 9th to April 12th . Progress made during the free weekend will be saved via Steam Cloud Saves, but save data cannot be transferred between platforms .
Significant Discounts on Subnautica Titles
Alongside the free weekend, both Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero are available at a 75% discount. This offer is valid from April 2nd to April 9th on Steam and from March 31st to April 7th on the Epic Games Store . Xbox players can purchase both titles at a 50% discount from April 2nd to April 15th .
Looking Ahead to Subnautica 2
The promotions are intended to build excitement for the upcoming Early Access release of Subnautica 2. The sequel, which has topped Steam’s wishlist since September 2025 , takes place on a new alien planet and features optional co-op multiplayer for up to four players . Subnautica 2 is built using Unreal Engine 5 and promises enhanced visuals and new creatures to discover .
