Jakarta – Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) has condemned the alleged violence that led to the death of 12-year-old Nizam Safei in Sukabumi, West Java. The commission has pledged to closely monitor the investigation into the case, ensuring a thorough and just outcome.

Habiburokhman, Chairman of Commission III DPR RI, stated on Sunday, February 22, 2026, that the commission strongly condemns the act of violence resulting in Nizam Safei’s death.

Habiburokhman indicated that the perpetrator could be charged under Article 76C in conjunction with Article 80 of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection. If convicted under these articles, the perpetrator could face a prison sentence of up to 15 years.

Commission III DPR has requested the Sukabumi Police to carefully investigate the case, specifically examining whether the alleged abuse was a repeated occurrence. If evidence of ongoing abuse is found, it will be considered an aggravating factor during sentencing.

Nizam Safei died on Thursday, February 19, 2026. Prior to his death, the victim reportedly told hospital staff that he had been forced to drink hot water by his stepmother.
The Sukabumi Police are currently investigating the case, and no suspects have been officially named as of February 22, 2026.
