Summer Food Service Program: 2026 Reimbursement Rates Available

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has released the reimbursement rates for the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) for 2026. These rates, effective January 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026, apply to breakfast, lunch, supper, and snacks provided through the program.

Understanding the 2026 Rates

Who Can Participate in the Summer Food Service Program?

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a federal program providing free, nutritious meals and snacks to children and teens when school is out. Through SUN Meals, any child aged 18 and under can participate, with no application required. Meals are available at schools, parks, and other community locations.

The Summer Meal Programs offered by the CDE aim to ensure children in low-income areas have access to healthy food during vacation and off-track periods.

Application Deadlines for Sponsors

New and returning SFSP applicant sponsors are required to submit complete and correct application packets through the Child Nutrition Information and Payment System (CNIPS). The deadline is 30 calendar days prior to the first SFSP meal service day, or May 15, whichever comes first. This deadline does not apply to sponsors serving areas impacted by unanticipated school closures.
