Suzanne Schulting Omitted from Dutch World Championship Short Track Team
Dutch short track speed skater Suzanne Schulting has been left off the national team roster for the upcoming World Short Track Championships later this month, as announced by the Royal Dutch Skating Association (KNSB) on Monday.
Recent Achievements and Olympic Success
Schulting, a ten-time world champion and Olympic medalist, experienced a setback in 2022, missing the World Championships in Montreal after testing positive for COVID-19. Despite this, she demonstrated her dominance by winning the Crystal Globe for best overall skater at the 2022-23 World Cup. She achieved significant success at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, securing two gold medals (in the 1000m and 3000m relay), a silver, and a bronze. At the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, she won gold in the 1000m and was part of the gold-medal-winning 3000m relay team.
World Championship Dominance
Schulting’s peak performance came at the 2021 World Short Track Championships in Dordrecht, Netherlands, where she remarkably won all five titles available: the 500m, 1000m, 1500m, the overall competition, and the 3000m relay. She also achieved multiple medals at the European Championships, including 17 gold medals.
Qualification for the 2026 Winter Olympics
Schulting qualified for the 2026 Winter Olympics in both short and long track speed skating, but will compete only in the 1500m short track event.
Recent Form and World Championships Preparation
Schulting has been working to regain peak form after a period of rest, aiming to peak at the World Championships in her home country. She reportedly felt herself improving in recent weeks, and her performance in training sessions suggested a return to her best.
