NATO and Switzerland explore Advanced Military Decoy Technologies

Bern, Switzerland – January 16, 2026 – The Federal Armaments Office (armasuisse) of Switzerland, in collaboration with the NATO Science and Technology Association (STO), recently hosted a workshop focused on the latest advancements and future challenges in military decoy technologies. The event, held on January 14th and 15th, brought together over 90 experts from the scientific community, defence industry, and military organizations across multiple nations.

The workshop served as a critical forum for discussing evolving technologies designed to protect military assets.Participants explored a range of decoy systems, including those designed to counter missile threats, disrupt enemy surveillance, and protect ground forces. Discussions centered on the increasing sophistication of modern warfare and the need for innovative countermeasures.

key areas of focus included the growth of more realistic and adaptable decoys, the integration of artificial intelligence to enhance decoy effectiveness, and the challenges of operating in complex electromagnetic environments. Experts also examined the potential of new materials and manufacturing techniques to reduce the cost and improve the performance of decoy systems.

“The collaboration between armasuisse and the NATO STO underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing emerging security threats,” stated a representative from armasuisse. “Sharing knowledge and expertise is crucial for developing effective defense capabilities and maintaining a technological edge.”

The workshop highlighted the growing importance of decoy technology as a vital component of modern defense strategies. As adversaries continue to develop more advanced weapons and surveillance systems, the need for sophisticated decoys will only increase. The event is expected to spur further research and development in this critical area, ultimately contributing to enhanced military preparedness and security.
