Rain Washes Out Thunder-Strikers Clash

Sydney Thunder narrowly missed a WBBL victory after umpires abandoned their match against the Adelaide Strikers due to rain. The Thunder needed just three more runs when play was called at a soaked Adelaide Oval.

Phoebe Litchfield was the star, blasting 38 runs off 15 balls. Her explosive hitting propelled the Thunder to 0-43 after 2.5 overs while chasing a target of 46 in a shortened, five-over contest.

Persistent rain forced a reduction in the game’s length. Earlier in the day,the scheduled match between the Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat was wholly washed out.

Despite rain continuing throughout the Thunder-Strikers game – falling steadily for fifteen minutes – the umpires’ sudden decision to end the match caught the Thunder players off guard.

“Disappointed,” Litchfield told Fox Sports. “It’s a shame… it’s pretty disappointing.”

Adelaide Strikers captain Tahlia mcgrath admitted she’d questioned the umpires earlier in the innings about conditions.Ultimately, she accepted the decision. “Tough one,” McGrath said. “The rain eased up, but the ball was slippery; the umpires made the call.”

Litchfield’s powerful innings had brought the Thunder within reach of a win that would have improved their position from seventh on the WBBL ladder.
