UkraineS Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Alexander Syrsky, stated that a military personnel level of 800,000 is sufficient for Ukraine’s defense needs and allows for a robust mobilization process, according to an interview with 24 Channels. This figure is part of discussions surrounding potential “peace plans” proposed by the United States. Syrsky also addressed ongoing negotiations regarding potential troop withdrawals and the issue of soldiers leaving their units without authorization (SZCh).

Maintaining Mobilization Capacity

Initially, Ukraine was presented with a proposal to reduce its military to 600,000 personnel. However, syrsky explained that the current figure of 800,000 is more suitable. “That is, we are not limited in mobilization. All our mobilization indicators and capabilities are preserved,” he stated. This ensures Ukraine can effectively respond to any future armed aggression.

Troop Withdrawal Negotiations

Syrsky acknowledged the ongoing discussions regarding potential troop withdrawals, specifically mentioning the Donetsk region and other areas. He emphasized that thes negotiations are led by the state leadership, with the Chief of the General Staff, Andrei Gnatov, playing a key role.

“We are military people, our main task is to defend the country,” Syrsky said. “Therefore, of course, our military is also participating in these negotiations… I think that all these issues will be raised and discussed more than once. The decision will be made reasonably. This is just one of the options.”

Addressing Unauthorized Abandonment of Units (SZCh)

The issue of Samovolne Vidkhilennya z Chastyn (SZCh), or unauthorized abandonment of military units, is being addressed through a comprehensive set of national measures. Syrsky believes a key component of the solution is ensuring a smooth and supportive transition for individuals moving from civilian life to military service. This suggests a focus on improving conditions and support systems for soldiers to reduce instances of desertion.

Key Takeaways:

* Ukraine is comfortable with maintaining an armed forces personnel level of 800,000.
* This number allows for continued effective mobilization capabilities.
* Negotiations regarding potential troop withdrawals are ongoing, led by state leadership.
* Addressing the issue of soldiers leaving their units requires a national-level, holistic approach focused on supporting soldiers’ transitions.

Ukraine continues to navigate complex security and geopolitical challenges. The ongoing discussions and strategic planning, as outlined by Commander-in-chief Syrsky, demonstrate a commitment to defending national interests while exploring potential pathways to a lasting resolution.
