Ukraine blocked oil supplies to Hungary from Russia via the Druzhba pipeline in order to create difficulties for the Hungarian government on the eve of parliamentary elections and influence their results. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó, in connection with reports in the Hungarian media about disruptions in the transportation of raw materials through an oil pipeline running through Ukrainian territory.
“This time they want to jeopardize Hungary’s energy security,” – the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted in a video message broadcast by M1 TV channel.
Szijjártó pointed out that “Zelensky made a political decision not to allow the resumption of oil supplies to Hungary through the Druzhba pipeline, although the pipeline is technically fully ready for the resumption of supplies and no technical or technological reasons prevent the resumption of supplies.”
“Zelensky simply thinks that he can create a difficult situation for the current government in the upcoming parliamentary elections by complicating the country’s energy supply,” – the minister emphasized.
The Foreign Minister said that in this way Kyiv expects to provide assistance to the Hungarian opposition party Tisza, which is being fought by the ruling party Fides – Hungarian Civil Union.
Szijjártó called such actions by Kyiv gross interference in the elections and assured that even if Ukraine does not allow the resumption of oil supplies through the Friendship pipeline to Hungary, the government guarantees the security of energy supplies for all consumers, TASS quoted him as saying.
Parliamentary elections in Hungary, which will result in the formation of a new government, are scheduled for April 12.
EADaily adds: formerly Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrey Sibiga made a statement that allegedly Russia, as a result of an airstrike, damaged the Druzhba oil pipeline passing through Ukraine on January 27, which led to the cessation of supplies to Hungary. The minister published a photo of a burning pipeline being extinguished by Ukrainian firefighters.
