TAG Video Systems Launches Lens for Proactive Broadcast Monitoring

Latest York, February 26, 2026 – TAG Video Systems has expanded its Media Control System (MCS) with the release of Lens, a visual service health analysis interface designed to streamline monitoring and reduce downtime for large-scale broadcast operations. Version 1.7.0 of MCS now incorporates Lens, offering operators a centralized view of monitored assets and active alerts.

Addressing a Critical Need in Broadcast Operations

Lens directly addresses the challenge of quickly identifying the root cause of issues when multiple video feeds simultaneously trigger alerts. Traditionally, operators have had to cross-reference data across several monitoring tools, a time-consuming process. Lens consolidates this information into a unified interface, significantly reducing mean time to repair (MTTR).

How Lens Works: A Hierarchical Approach

The new interface organizes monitored video feeds into customizable hierarchical groups, displaying alarm distribution with color-coded severity indicators. This allows engineers to quickly pinpoint root causes. Operations can structure these hierarchies based on various criteria, including:

  • Data Center Location: (e.g., “US West” → “Rack 7” → specific encoders)
  • Content Type: (e.g., “Sports” → “Basketball” → individual game feeds)
  • Signal Path: (e.g., “Playout” → “Contribution” → contributor name)

A key feature is the ability for each feed to belong to multiple categories simultaneously, providing operators with different operational perspectives on the same content. When issues arise, color-coded indicators at each hierarchy level highlight the scope of the problem – whether it affects isolated feeds or entire categories.

Drilling Down for Efficient Diagnostics

Engineers can expand nested hierarchies to move from a high-level overview to specific diagnostics. The system also allows filtering by severity thresholds and efficient tracing of upstream and downstream systems connected to affected assets. According to Michael Demb, VP Product Strategy at TAG Video Systems, “Every second of downtime matters” in broadcast operations managing hundreds or thousands of channels. Lens provides the unified view needed to quickly assess system health and pinpoint the source of problems.

Availability

Lens is currently available as part of TAG Video Systems’ Media Control System (MCS) version 1.7.0 and later. More information can be found at https://tagvs.com.
