Take-Two Subpoenas Microsoft and Discord Over GTA 6 Leaks

Take-Two Interactive has filed a legal subpoena in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York targeting Microsoft Corporation and Discord. According to court filings, the publisher is demanding detailed account and server data linked to the online dissemination of Grand Theft Auto VI, following the unauthorized leak of a sixth gameplay video. The legal action aims to unmask the anonymous individual known as CyberLeek, who reportedly possesses access to a playable build of the upcoming title.

The court documents, submitted under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), require both Microsoft and Discord to surrender records by September 4. Take-Two stated through counsel that the subpoena serves strictly to identify the alleged infringer and protect the company’s intellectual property rights. The leak incident follows ongoing online disruption by the actor, who has previously demanded public apologies from developer Rockstar Games over the lack of a physical disc edition for the game.

Subpoena Details and Data Demanded from Microsoft and Discord

Take-Two’s legal team has asked the federal court to compel technology platforms to hand over identifying records tied to multiple accounts across cloud and messaging services. According to the court filing, the subpoena directed at Microsoft demands account IDs, registration emails, IP addresses for registration and last login, phone numbers, linked services such as Google and Xbox, and associated hardware identifiers including MachineGuid and MSA. Furthermore, the request covers any OneDrive content related to Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar, or the online handle CyberLeek.

Discord faces matching requirements to inspect its dedicated servers, as CyberLeek reportedly operated a private server alongside a web domain and an X, formerly Twitter, account. Investigators have also noted potential financial motives, suggesting the leaker attempted to promote a personal cryptocurrency amid the security breach. Meanwhile, related threat actors have attempted to capitalize on the attention by threatening further leaks concerning narrative elements of the game’s protagonists, Jason and Lucia.

Grand Theft Auto VI Setting and Narrative Scope

Grand Theft Auto VI returns players to Vice City within the fictional state of Leonida, an in-universe equivalent of Florida developed by Rockstar Games. Official publisher summaries frame the core narrative around protagonists Jason and Lucia, who find themselves entangled in a criminal conspiracy across the American South following a botched heist. The storyline forces an alliance between the two characters as they navigate the criminal underground of Leonida.
