Tank ONO Expands to Czech Highways, Promising Lower Fuel Prices

Tank ONO, known for its consistently low fuel prices, is strategically expanding its network to key Czech highways D1 and D4. This move aims to offer motorists more affordable refueling options along major transportation routes, potentially disrupting the pricing strategies of existing highway gas stations.

Expansion Details: D1 and D4 Locations

Currently operating 46 stations across the Czech Republic, Tank ONO plans to open two fresh locations this year. The first will be situated near the 41st kilometer of the D1 highway, close to the Divišov exit. This station is a rebuild of a former AS 24 facility, primarily serving freight transport, and is located less than a kilometer from the highway exit. The second location will be on the D4 highway at the 63rd kilometer, near Lety and Horosedly, involving the reconstruction of an existing gas station. Garáž.cz reports the D4 station is expected to open in May.

Consistent Pricing Strategy

Tank ONO distinguishes itself by maintaining uniform prices across all its stations nationwide. This means drivers will pay the same price per liter regardless of location, whether in Prague, a smaller town, or now, along the highways. As of late February 2026, gasoline was priced around 34 Czech crowns per liter, and diesel around 36 crowns, significantly lower than the approximately 40-41 crowns for gasoline and 43 crowns for diesel at stations directly on the D1 and D4 highways. Tradeoff.drbna.cz highlights this price difference.

Business Model and Future Plans

The company, founded by Jiří Ondra, operates on a low-margin, high-volume business model, building customer trust through consistently low prices. Tank ONO prefers to acquire and renovate existing gas stations rather than building new ones from scratch, a more cost-effective and faster approach. Tradeoff.drbna.cz reports that while there are no immediate plans for further highway expansions, the company remains open to new opportunities.

Additional Services

Beyond fuel, Tank ONO is also focused on providing additional services to customers. Currently, seven stations offer car washes, and the same number operate slight shops or restaurants, recognizing the importance of “upselling” for profitability. Tradeoff.drbna.cz notes that these additional sales are becoming increasingly crucial.

Electric Vehicle Charging

As of March 9, 2026, Tank ONO has no immediate plans to install electric vehicle charging stations at its locations, but the company is not ruling out the possibility in the future. Tradeoff.drbna.cz reports on this.
