Foiled Terror Plot Targeted Taylor Swift Concert in Vienna
In August 2024, Austrian authorities uncovered and neutralized a terrorism plot orchestrated by Islamic State followers aimed at a series of Taylor Swift concerts at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna. The planned attack intended to cause mass casualties among concert attendees and those in the surrounding area.
The Plot and Arrests
Three individuals – aged 17, 18, and 19 – were arrested in Austria for their involvement in the plot. The intended attack methods included suicide bombing, arson, mass shooting, mass stabbing, vehicle ramming, and general terrorism . A Syrian juvenile male in Germany was later charged in 2025 for aiding the plotters in Austria.
The Target: Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour
The target was three concerts scheduled from August 8–10, 2024, as part of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour – her sixth concert tour and her first performances ever in Austria. Tickets for the concerts went on sale in July 2023 and sold out within hours, marking the fastest and largest ticket sale in Austrian history, with over 200,000 people expected to attend .
Security Measures and Aftermath
Following the initial arrest, police stated that the concerts would proceed as planned, but with increased security measures in place . The investigation highlighted the ongoing threat of Islamic extremism and the importance of international cooperation in preventing terrorist attacks.
