During the awards ceremony broadcast, Taylor Nation shared an initial clip of the “Patient Zero” video. Swift subsequently informed fans that the full music video is available exclusively to subscribers on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, as it has not yet been uploaded to YouTube.

The narrative concept positions Swift’s ghost following Johnson’s character to deliver a caution regarding Farrell’s character. Lyrically, the track functions as a direct address to the new romantic partner of a toxic former partner, sharing insights on past behavior.

Swift detailed the inspiration behind “Patient Zero” in a statement to Capital FM, explaining that the track derived from a real-life conversation among friends.
“The story behind me writing the song ‘Patient Zero’ is that I was hanging out with a bunch of friends, and one of my friends told us that she had been reached out to by the new girlfriend of an ex of hers, asking for guidance about whether she had had the same experiences with this guy,” Swift stated. She noted that other members of the group immediately related, sharing similar personal experiences of being contacted by subsequent partners seeking validation.
Longtime Friendship Yields On-Screen Reunion
Dakota Johnson discussed working with Swift on the music video in an interview with Fan Girl Nation.
“Taylor and I have been friends for a really long time, and we’re very close,” Johnson said. “And we decided to work together, and it’s great. Normally, I would say don’t work with your friends. But we work really well together, so…”
The collaboration follows Swift’s essay written for Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2026 issue in April, where Swift profiled Johnson. In the piece, Swift highlighted Johnson’s professional trajectory and her work leading the production company TeaTime Pictures, alongside her performances in projects like Splitsville and Materialists.
