Puerto Rico Gears Up to Host World Baseball Classic Pool A in San Juan

San Juan, Puerto Rico, is set to become a focal point for baseball fans worldwide as it hosts Pool A of the 2026 World Baseball Classic from March 6-11 at Hiram Bithorn Stadium. Despite the absence of some star players, Team Puerto Rico is determined to deliver a memorable performance for its passionate fanbase.

A Baseball-Obsessed Island

The return of the World Baseball Classic to Puerto Rico has ignited excitement across the island. Carlos Beltrán, the General Manager of Team Puerto Rico, emphasized the significance of representing the country on the international stage. “We don’t have this opportunity to wear PR on our chest…that often. When we receive this opportunity, we try to show up for our fans,” he stated. Baseball is deeply ingrained in Puerto Rican culture, often described as a religion, and playing at home adds an extra layer of motivation for the team.

Adjusting to Roster Changes

Whereas the team will be without key players like Francisco Lindor, Carlos Correa, and Javy Báez due to insurance constraints, Puerto Rico has adapted by welcoming modern talent, including Nolan Arenado. Arenado, who previously played for Team USA, is eligible to play for Puerto Rico through his mother’s heritage. His addition has been met with enthusiasm from both players, and fans.

Strong Leadership and Coaching Staff

Team Puerto Rico boasts a strong leadership core with Carlos Beltrán at the helm as GM and Yadier Molina as the manager.
