Technics SL-1500CS: A New Era for Direct Drive Turntables
The Technics SL-1500C has been a highly regarded direct drive turntable, earning accolades including multiple What Hi-Fi? Awards and consistently appearing on best turntable lists since its initial release in 2019.1 Now, Technics is building on that success with the introduction of the SL-1500CS, a new model that retains the core strengths of its predecessor while incorporating advanced technology from Technics’ premium offerings.
Advancements with ΔΣ-Drive Technology
The SL-1500CS carries forward many of the hallmarks of the SL-1500C – an iron-coreless direct drive motor, a built-in phono stage, an S-shaped tonearm and a robust build quality. Still, the most significant upgrade is the integration of ΔΣ-Drive (Delta-Sigma) technology.1 This technology, initially featured in the SL-1200GR2 and SL-1300G, aims to minimize motor vibrations and enhance rotational accuracy for a more stable and precise playback experience.
Technics’ direct drive motors already address unwanted vibrations and “cogging” effects common in vinyl playback. The ΔΣ-Drive technology leverages the brand’s expertise in signal processing to deliver a cleaner, low-noise power feed to the motor, further reducing vibration components to an absolute minimum.1

Robust Design and Familiar Features
The SL-1500CS maintains the robust structure of the five-star SL-1500, featuring an aluminum die-cast chassis combined with ABS and glass fiber for rigidity and vibration control.1 The S-shaped aluminum tonearm and automatic arm lift function also return, as does the pre-mounted Ortofon 2M Red moving magnet cartridge. A switchable MM phono stage is built into the turntable, offering flexibility for system integration.
Availability and Pricing
The SL-1500CS will be available in a new metallic grey finish, departing from the black, silver, and white options of the SL-1500C.1 It is scheduled for release in March 2026, with a price of £1099.1 This positions it above the current entry-level Technics model, the Bluetooth-equipped SL-40CBT.
