The Busan Modern History Museum’s Temporary Capital Memorial Hall has closed its presidential residence for a major 470-day conservation project starting July 1, 2024, according to museum announcements.
Roof and Woodwork Repairs at the Temporary Capital Memorial Hall
According to the Busan Modern History Museum, Gwangbo Togeon Co., Ltd. is executing the construction work under the supervision of Hongsan Culture Co., Ltd. Project specifications show that contractors are replacing 80% of the existing traditional tile roof and installing a double-layer asphalt sheet waterproofing system. Wood construction repairs involve a 100% replacement of tile hangers, eaves boards, bargeboards, and rafter ends, alongside a 50% replacement of square rafters.
Metalwork Upgrades and Interior Safety Enhancements
Contractors are dismantling and repairing 100% of the existing eave gutters, which includes total replacements and new installations where required. According to project documents, workers are also installing new steel safety handrails in the interior stairwell to improve visitor safety once the facility reopens.
Visitor Access and Suspension of Guided Services
Due to the ongoing construction, the Busan cultural tourism commentary and guide services remain unavailable at the presidential residence site through September 11, 2025. Museum officials have designated Kim Pyeong-geun of the Temporary Capital Memorial Hall as the official construction supervisor, reachable at 051-244-6344, alongside site representative Hwang Jun-won to manage inquiries regarding the project timeline.
