Texas Longhorns Dominate UTRGV in 14-0 Run-Rule Victory
AUSTIN, TX – The No. 3 Texas Longhorns (7-0) continued their undefeated start to the 2026 season with a decisive 14-0 run-rule victory over the UTRGV Vaqueros (3-4) on Tuesday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Freshman right-hander Sam Cozart delivered an impressive performance in his first start, striking out eight batters over four innings.
Cozart Shines in First Start
Sam Cozart, a 6’6”, 260-pound pitcher, allowed only a single up the middle on his first pitch but settled in to dominate the Vaqueros. Despite walking three batters, Cozart showcased his potential, throwing 73 pitches in his outing. Burnt Orange Nation noted that while Cozart typically prides himself on throwing strikes, the three walks were a minor criticism given his overall performance.
