Texas Tech Softball Adds Sun Belt Player of the Year Mihyia Davis

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech softball has announced the signing of Mihyia Davis, the 2024 Sun Belt Player of the Year, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Texas Tech Athletics

Davis’s Background

A native of Lovelady, Texas, Davis spent two seasons at Louisiana Lafayette, where she quickly established herself as a key player. During her freshman year, she earned numerous accolades, including:

  • NFCA All-America Third Team
  • NFCA Golden Shoe Award
  • NFCA All-Central Region First Team
  • NFCA National Freshman of the Year Top 25 Finalist
  • Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year
  • All-Sun Belt First Team
  • Louisiana Sports Writers Association Freshman of the Year
  • All-Louisiana First Team
  • Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll

Impressive Statistics

In her first collegiate season, Davis batted .380 in 56 games and recorded 52 stolen bases. She followed up with a .419 batting average and 23 stolen bases in 64 games during her sophomore campaign, leading to her Sun Belt Player of the Year honors and a selection to the All-Sun Belt Conference First Team and the NFCA All-Central Region Second Team in 2024.

Davis is likewise recognized for her strong defensive abilities in the outfield, consistently making highlight-reel plays.

Her speed coupled with her competitive attitude results in one great defensive play after another. She will quickly grow a fan favorite with her play style and All-American abilities.”

On February 23, 2025, Davis led off with a triple, as highlighted in a Facebook post by Texas Tech Softball. On June 4, 2025, Davis delivered the first run of the game, as shown in an Instagram reel.
