Thai Tourists Find Unexpected Guest in Shanghai Hotel Room

The incident, captured on video and quickly shared online, has garnered over 10 million views and sparked widespread discussion.

Tiyatida, a TikTok user who posted the video, explained that the incident occurred at a hotel near Nanjing Road in Shanghai. Upon entering their room, they found an unidentified man sleeping soundly. She and a friend questioned him in English, asking who he was and how he obtained access to their room.

The man, seemingly disoriented upon waking, responded in Chinese, stating, “Isn’t this room 407?” He then claimed he had mistakenly entered the wrong room and retrieved his phone, remaining silent and looking down.

The video rapidly spread across Thai social media, prompting speculation among netizens, with some suggesting the man may have been attempting to steal from guests.

Following online inquiries, some users claimed to recognize the man as a hotel employee. Tiyatida subsequently released a follow-up video confirming that the hotel had acknowledged the man was, in fact, a staff member. She added that her mother encountered the man while purchasing water, and he offered an apology in English.

Initially, the Thiatida family considered resolving the matter privately. However, a strong wave of concern from Thai netizens urged them to involve the police. Tiyatida later stated that she and her father disagreed on this course of action, with her father preferring to avoid further complications, while she prioritized safety and legal recourse.
