Season 4 is scheduled to premiere on April 3, 2026, and this iconic isekai anime is setting out to prove that long anime seasons are better than the shorter-length cours Winter 2026’s lineup so heavily favored.

It helps that the Reincarnated as a Slime’s side characters ensure there isn’t a sense that the world would fail to function entirely without him.

This is the opposite of how many isekai are handled, with the protagonist being completely overpowered and borderline worshiped. Other elements that are thankfully passed over include the harem trope, and while there are “softer” examples in the story, it’s not nearly as bad as its contemporaries. The result is a series that transforms now-cliche isekai elements into a story that’s both fun and well-written.

Reincarnated as a Slime’s Return Makes Spring 2026 a Packed Season For Isekai Fans

The first season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime began airing in 2018, with the second debuting in 2021. This was the start of a modern anime trend regarding the isekai, with Season 2 split into two cours. The first of these ran from January until March, with the rest of the episodes airing from July to September. Season 3 aired from April to September in 2024, but thankfully, fans won’t need to wait quite as long for the next part of the story.

Though the new Tensura season will still be produced by animation studio Eight Bit, it will be handled somewhat differently compared to its predecessors. Season 4 will be about 60 episodes, which is unprecedented for the franchise and most modern anime in general. With the precedent set by the anime-original movies, however, expansion with new material is a possibility. Given that the new season is five times the length of each preceding season, it’s almost impossible that volumes 10-12 are the only things adapted. There’s also the chance that the anime is trying to avoid losing hype with extensive seasonal gaps while also trying to hurry and tell the entire story.

There are 23 volumes of the Reincarnated as a Slime light novels, with the final one being published last year. If the new season goes beyond adapting the 12th volume, it will officially be done with over half the material. While it would be a shame to see the series finish, it also makes sense given that the source has already concluded. Some have argued that the isekai brand has more than gone past its prime, and ending things sooner rather than later is a good way to maintain hype and not lose the audience. It remains to be seen how the anime’s fourth season handles whatever it does adapt, but it’s clear that things are kicking into high gear for the remainder of the adventures of Rimuru and his friends.
