Table of Contents
Filippo and Tania, an Italian couple with a passion for motorcycle travel, are set to embark on a remarkable journey spanning North and South America. Departing on January 7th, 2025, their adventure will take them thru fifteen countries, culminating (potentially) in Alaska, with a planned return to Italy on May 14th, 2025. This trip builds upon Filippo’s extensive travel experience, having already visited 51 countries, including a challenging overland crossing of Africa from Namibia to Kenya. They will document their experiences on their YouTube channel, “traveling with pips“.
The Route: From Patagonia to Alaska
The couple’s itinerary is ambitious, covering a vast and diverse range of landscapes. Their journey begins with an ascent along the Chilean coast, leading them to the Atacama Desert. From there, they will enter Bolivia and then Peru, aiming to reach Machu Picchu via Lake titicaca.
The route continues north through Ecuador and Colombia.Recognizing the impracticality of overland travel between Colombia and Panama, they plan to ship their motorcycle by plane to Panama. Once in Panama, they will resume their ride, traversing Central America – Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala – before crossing into Mexico and ultimately reaching Los Angeles, California.
Their adventure doesn’t end in California. If time allows, Filippo and Tania hope to continue north into Canada and ultimately reach Alaska.
A history of Adventure and Resilience
This journey is not without its challenges. Filippo recently recovered from a severe ankle fracture sustained during a motorcycle trip in the himalayan region of Ladakh, India, in August. The injury went unnoticed for four days due to the remote location. ladakh is known for its rugged terrain and high altitude, making medical access challenging. This experience underscores the couple’s resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
Their previous African adventure, a 2.5-month motorcycle journey from Namibia to Kenya, demonstrates their capability for long-distance travel in demanding conditions. Africa’s diverse landscapes and infrastructure challenges require notable planning and adaptability. Motorcycle touring in Africa is gaining popularity, but remains a challenging undertaking.
