The Beatles Liverpool: Day Trip Guide

Although John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Pete Best (that was the band’s line-up at the time) had already been known to Liverpool music fans for several years, their first appearance in their homeland under the name The Beatles took place on February 9, 1961. In previous years, Lennon, later joined by McCartney and Harrison, had tried various band names, starting with Black Jackscontinuing with The Quarrymentad The Silver Beetles and eventually arriving at the name that made the band famous around the world.

However, it was accepted only at the end of the summer of 1960, when the young guys had already decided to go to Hamburg night clubs for money. So it happened that the Liverpool quartet with the name of the Beatles made their debut in West Germany, not in their homeland. In the German port city, they were just like on a roller coaster attraction – up here, down there. Music lovers and club owners appreciated the band’s abilities, but the people living near the entertainment venues did not like it at all The Beatles the noise made, and the police received one complaint after another until finally a critical mass had been built up. It was quickly established that Harrison was not of legal age and, of course, had no work permit in West Germany, so the boy had to be deported to the British Isles.

Then things got even crazier, the young aspirants were accused of arson, and the driver of this whole thing was the envious innkeeper Kaiserkeller the owner, who could not forgive that the British moved from his establishment to another club where they paid a little more. As a result, McCartney and Best were expelled from West Germany, and Lennon soon willingly followed them, who decided that the future lay with these musicians, rejecting the Germans’ ideas about looking for new members for the group.
