Real Madrid Prepares for RB Leipzig Clash at the Bernabéu
Real Madrid hosts RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, aiming for their third victory in the Champions League league stage. Kickoff is set for 8:00 PM BST, with live television coverage on TNT Sports in the UK and streaming on Paramount+ in the US, 101greatgoals.com reported. José Mourinho’s side enters the fixture following a 4-1 domestic win against Sevilla, while the visitors arrive after suffering a 6-1 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
Squad Selection and Lineup Dynamics Before the Clásico
Manager José Mourinho faces squad management challenges with a high-stakes La Liga fixture against Barcelona at Camp Nou looming on Sunday. In defense, Ibrahima Konaté and Dean Huijsen are projected to anchor the center-back positions, supported by Federico Valverde and Álvaro Carreras or Marc Cucurella on the flanks.
Aurélien Tchouaméni anchors the central midfield alongside Jude Bellingham and Arda Güler. In attack, Vinícius Júnior is confirmed to start. While the Brazilian forward serves a domestic four-match suspension following a red card against Villarreal—causing him to miss the upcoming Clásico—his ban does not apply in European competitions, the false 9 reported. Kylian Mbappé leads the forward line, sitting just a hat-trick away from reaching 100 total goals for Real Madrid, while 19-year-old Yan Diomande shifts to the right wing to face his former club.
RB Leipzig Seeks Rebound Amid Defensive Struggles
RB Leipzig manager Martín Demichelis looks to stabilize a squad that has experienced wide performance swings early in the season. The German side opened their European campaign with a 4-1 loss to debutants Como before bouncing back with a 1-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven thanks to a goal from Brajan Gruda, the false 9 noted. Christopher Nkunku leads the Leipzig attack, though the team travels to Spain carrying a four-match losing streak in away fixtures across all competitions.
Leipzig’s defensive depth faces tests due to ongoing injuries. The club remains without Assan Ouedraogo, Christoph Baumgartner, and Marc Guiu, while backup goalkeeper Leopold Zingerle is suspended, 101greatgoals.com reported. Historical fixtures between the two clubs include Real Madrid’s 2-1 aggregate victory in the 2023-24 Round of 16 on their path to winning the tournament.

Leipzig’s squad features Vandevoordt in goal, alongside outfield options including Baku, Orban, Lukeba, Raum, El Aynaoui, Banzuzi, Nusa, and Rômulo. The teams have previously met four times in the Champions League, including group stage fixtures in the 2022-23 campaign where Real Madrid won 2-0 at home and Leipzig won 3-2 in Germany.
