Universal Pictures’ The Odyssey has claimed the top spot at the U.K. and Ireland box office, opening with a robust £12.5 million ($16.8 million) weekend. The film’s performance marks a significant moment for the studio, fueled by record-breaking interest in premium large-format screenings and a standout debut at the BFI Imax in London.

‘The Odyssey’ Sets New Premium Format Records

The BFI Imax recorded its highest-grossing three-day opening weekend in history with The Odyssey, bringing in $294,249. According to box office data, this performance surpassed the previous record held by Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which earned $289,682 in 2017. The London venue has reported over 82,000 admissions for the film, maintaining a 94% occupancy rate and 173 consecutive sold-out showtimes.

The film’s debut represents Universal’s fifth-biggest opening Friday in the market.

While The Odyssey led the charts, other titles continued to perform in the U.K. and Ireland market:

* Toy Story 5 (Disney): The film secured second place in its fifth weekend, adding $2.2 million to reach a $60.6 million cumulative total.
