Gironde Power Outage: restoration Efforts Underway After Severe Weather
As of February 14, 2026, at 00:21:36, meaningful power outages continue to affect 29 municipalities in the Gironde region of France. Enedis, the French electricity distributor, is working to restore power to approximately 100,000 customers still without electricity, alongside widespread disruptions to the telephone network impacting an additional 100,000 individuals.
Enedis anticipates restoring 60% of the electricity network by the end of the day. Restoration efforts are focusing on reactivating medium voltage infrastructure, allowing for the reconnection of smaller groups of customers – approximately 200 to 300 at a time – in localized areas.
The restoration process is being hampered by challenging conditions. Many areas remain waterlogged, requiring technicians to transport equipment manually or navigate tough terrain. To accelerate repairs, Enedis has deployed 200 local agents and received reinforcements of 200 technicians from across France, tasked with completing an estimated 1,500 repair projects.
Local authorities are urging residents to follow official instructions closely and to rely on radio broadcasts for updates during the outage. The prefect has emphasized the importance of adhering to safety guidelines while power is being restored.
