Russian Claims of Kupyansk Capture Disputed

According to Tregubov, Kupyansk has long been a focal point in Russian propaganda narratives. The Russian military command attempted to portray the situation as a “victory story,” even claiming in early November the city had been captured.

“Putin ultimately stated that Kupyansk had been taken, alleging 15 Ukrainian battalions were “cordoned off” in Kupyansk-Uzlovoy. Though, this claim didn’t reflect reality at the time, and the situation was actually unfolding in the opposite direction,” noted the head of the communications department of the Joint Forces group.

While Russian forces “had some hope” at the beginning of November,Ukrainian troops “carefully” managed to reverse the situation by mid-month,according to Tregubov.
